About Unity
Outreach Ministry

The Outreach Ministry at Unity of Tustin helps our congregation realize its vision of being:

A Center of radiating light and love demonstrating
the principles Jesus Christ in our daily lives.
Our Outreach Team Meeting Prayer:

I am one with my group brothers and sisters, and all that I have is theirs.
May the love which is in my soul pour forth to them.
May the strength which is in me lift and aid them.
May the thoughts which my soul creates reach and encourage them.

Annual projects sponsored by the Outreach Ministry include:

JANUARY & FEBRUARY:
  • SouperBowl Sunday: This is a once-a-year event, in which we ask for donations of $1.00 (or more!) from the congregation. We give this money to a local soup kitchen. This is part of a nationwide collection, started by a minister in the midwest. They collect over $1,000,000.00 each year. We have supported Someone Cares Soup Kitchen in Costa Mesa and Mary's Kitchen in Orange.
  • Cold Weather Shelter: This is a homeless shelter set up by the Salvation Army during the coldest time of the year, from Dec. 15th to March 15th. People volunteer their time to help with various duties at the shelter. They check in clients, serve dinner, and pass out towels and toiletry articles for showers.
MARCH & APRIL:
  • Easter Baskets for Seniors: We collect Easter Baskets filled with fun and useful items for about 100 residents of nearby retirement and convalescent homes. We have donated to both Casa Orange Retirement Home in Orange and Carehouse Convalescent Center in Santa Ana.
MAY:
  • Mother's Day Drive: We collect personal items for the mothers at different homes or shelters, including the Heritage House in Costa Mesa, the Eli Home in Anaheim, Mary's Shelter in Tustin, and the House of Hope in Orange. The Heritage House is a home providing shelter and a six-month recovery program for pregnant or parenting mothers who are recovering from drug and alcohol abuse. The Eli Home provides a safe place for 32 moms and their children who are victims of domestic violence. Mary's Shelter is a home for pregnant teens. The House of Hope is an eighteen month program for women and children who have been previously homeless and are beginning new lives.
JUNE, JULY, AUGUST:
  • School Backpacks and School Supplies: We collect new backpacks filled with lots of school supplies for children in our area. We have donated the backpacks to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School in Santa Ana and The Boys and Girls Club of Tustin.
SEPTEMBER & OCTOBER:
  • Warm Clothing Drive: We collect used warm, winter clothing for those who can use it. We have donated these articles to Someone Cares Soup Kitchen, the Heritage House, Walking Shield, and the Catholic Worker, which feeds the homeless and hungry.
NOVEMBER & DECEMBER:
  • Christmas Angels: We collect new, wrapped gifts for children and their parents. We donate to the children sponsored by The Salvation Army, The House of Hope, The Child Abuse Prevention Center, The Heritage House, Hart Community Homes (group home for abused and neglected teen boys), and the "Motel Children." We sometimes make donations of other items that they need, such as food and diapers.
